Queen'scroft High School

Online Safety

At Queen’s Croft School, online safety is a key priority. We are committed to ensuring that all pupils, staff and families understand how to use technology safely, responsibly and positively.

The online world is constantly evolving, and while it offers many opportunities for learning and connection, it also presents risks. Our approach focuses on building knowledge, awareness and resilience so that our school community can navigate the digital world safely.

Our Approach

We promote online safety through three key areas:

Keeping pupils safe
Keeping staff safe
Supporting families and the wider community

Online safety is embedded across the curriculum and reinforced through assemblies, tutor time and whole-school events such as Safer Internet Day.

Keeping Pupils Safe

We teach pupils how to stay safe online through our Computing and PSHE curriculum, alongside wider school activities.

Pupils learn how to:

  • Recognise online risks and unsafe situations
  • Stay safe when communicating with others online
  • Protect their personal information
  • Understand healthy online relationships
  • Report concerns and seek help
  • Think critically about online content and misinformation

We also ensure pupils understand that:

  • People online may not always be who they say they are
  • Content shared online can be difficult to remove
  • The same expectations for behaviour apply online as offline

All pupils are expected to follow our Acceptable Use Agreements when using school devices and the internet.

Keeping Staff Safe

Staff play a vital role in modelling safe and responsible online behaviour.

All staff:

  • Receive regular online safety training
  • Follow strict data protection and safeguarding procedures
  • Use secure systems for communication
  • Adhere to our Acceptable Use Agreement

Filtering and Monitoring

We use filtering and monitoring systems to help protect pupils and staff when using school technology.

These systems:

  • Block access to inappropriate or harmful content
  • Monitor online activity for safeguarding concerns
  • Alert designated staff where concerns arise

Cyberbullying

Cyberbullying is taken seriously at Queen’s Croft School.

We:

  • Teach pupils about the impact and risks of cyberbullying
  • Encourage pupils to report concerns
  • Respond to incidents in line with our behaviour and safeguarding policies

Supporting Parents and Carers

We recognise that online safety continues beyond school.

We support parents and carers by:

  • Sharing guidance and resources
  • Providing updates on current online trends and risks
  • Offering workshops and information sessions
  • Signposting to trusted online safety websites

We encourage parents to:

  • Monitor their child’s online activity
  • Talk openly about online experiences
  • Set appropriate boundaries at home
